Hitomi Murata
While Hitomi was at university, she met a fantastic professor who gave her lots of encouragement to study English and give presentations in front of others. When she found out that the professor was moving to a different university, she decided to follow her to continue to take her classes.
After graduation, she studied herself to become a qualified national childcare worker for three years alongside working for Bose corporation.
In her 30s, she gained experience in the childcare field by qualifying as a childcare assistant in Vancouver, Canada, and finding her own internship placements. Upon returning to Japan, she used her Canadian experience to help manage and promote child care in Japan for a childcare company.
Based on her own experience, Hitomi hoped that young people would be able to play an active role in the international society in the future, and was involved in the planning and management of the Cabinet Office's International Youth Exchange Program ‘The Ship for World Youth.’ During her time working on this program, Hitomi worked with approximately 1200 young people from over 20 different countries.
After her duties at the Cabinet Office program, she became involved in early childhood education with parents at an English conversation school, with the aim of encouraging an international outlook from early childhood.
In 2020, she moved to the UK where she now resides with her family. She currently supports people with learning disabilities to live independently in their own homes. Alongside this, Hitomi also plans and gives Japanese language lessons and events to promote Japanese culture and language.
